Saamai, known as little millet in English, is one of the easiest millets to start with if you are new to switching from white rice. The smallest of all millets by grain size, it has a mild flavour, cooks quickly, and works in virtually every rice-based recipe without altering the dish’s flavour. Unpolished and stone-cleaned, our saamai is sourced and packed with no chemical treatment.

Why Saamai

  • Exceptionally rich in iron at approximately 9.3mg per 100g, among the highest of all millets and significantly more than white rice
  • Good source of dietary fibre at around 7.6g per 100g for digestion and sustained fullness
  • Low glycaemic index of around 54, ideal for diabetics and blood sugar management
  • Good source of protein, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc for overall health
  • Naturally gluten-free and one of the fastest cooking millets available

How to Use

Samai little millet cooks faster than most other millets and has the closest texture to white rice, making it the easiest one-to-one swap in your kitchen. Use it for pongal, khichdi, upma, idli, dosa, payasam, or simply as plain rice with sambar and curry. Soak for 20 to 30 minutes before cooking for best results. For a warm, ready-to-cook saamai breakfast, our saamai ven pongal mix is ready in under 15 minutes with no prep needed.

Looking to build a complete millet rotation, pair saamai with kodo millet (varagu) and barnyard millet (kuthiraivali) through the week. For a single pack that covers multiple grains, our millet health mix is a wholesome daily option for the whole family.

No preservatives. No artificial colour. No added flavour.
